The Academic Word List is a list of the 570 word families used most frequently in academic work in the English-speaking world. Each list contains 60 words (with each word representing one word family), except for List 10, which contains 30 words.
Assignment: Each Tuesday, I will give you a new list. The following Tuesday, I will give you a quiz on the vocabulary on that list:

AWL 2 Oct. 5
AWL 3 Oct. 12 - Choice Day (pick either 3a or 3b the day of the test)
AWL 4 Oct. 19 - 4a will be given on 10/19; 4b complete at home (AWL sublist 4b Quiz 4b home.doc)

AWL 6 Nov. 2
AWL 7 Nov. 9
AWL 8 Nov. 16
AWL 9 Nov. 23 AWL 10 Nov. 30
AWL 10 quiz is now on Dec. 7, so you won't have to study for it over Thanksgiving break.
To learn the vocabulary on the list, you can use your favorite ways to learn new vocabulary. We will learn some techniques in class too. In addition, you can do exercises online that are designed to help you practice the words on each list.
